Welcome to my new and improved website and blog!

The site was designed courtesy of my friend and business partner Logan Dwight. I love the explosion of color he incorporated into paint splatter around the border of my content. I also really like the font he chose to use for my name and page headers, Kilogram. It’s a free open font that allowed me to use CSS3 @font-face throughout my site. Definitely check out his other work over at his site.

I’ve been experimenting a lot with Wordpress (WP) and creating my own custom themes. To really see if I had learned anything I decided to build my new site using WP as my back-end engine. I never really understood all the hype about WP until I started using it, and now I can safely say it’s an amazing tool. Developing and customizing WP is pretty easy and there is great documentation for almost anything you want to do. The end result with my site is a pretty customized iteration of WP. I’ve got sorting for my news section, portfolio section (with sub categories), and my blog section. There is also several custom back-end functions that allowed me to tweak the default functionality of WP. All-in-all I am very pleased with developing my site using WP and I am sure I will be using it on other sites in the future.

As far as my blog section is concerned, I will update it relatively frequently. There will be no general theme other than “whatever Ian wants to write about”. I plan on doing some articles on technical stuff, starting off with a few Wordpress tricks I picked up. I will also write about general thoughts I have about my life and the world and the occasional media critique (I watch a lot of movies). It’ll mostly just be a nice outlet to have somewhere to freely write and publish my work.

So enjoy my site, check out my portfolio, and always feel free to send me a message!
